I've seen a lot of online comment recently along the lines that appeals for polite dialogue are simply a sign of white male privilege, the thought being that only those with power and privilege can afford to be polite. Of course there is something in that. But apart from the fact that abandoning such dialogue removes entirely the chance for genuine intellectual reflection and progress, it's impossible to be a virtuous person unless one keeps one's emotions under control. And frankly being virtuous should be more important to us than passing political success (or even scoring cheap points on twitter!).Lazarushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09716412032074416331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5078331897510807942.post-90733226402999819792016-11-13T09:28:54.587-08:002016-11-13T09:28:54.587-08:00What a sad vignette - for a variety of reasons.

The unending churn of the news-cycle surely plays its part as well: a kind of secular liturgy to help us keep up with the Zeitgeist.Kennethhttp://www.pluscardenabbey.orgnoreply@blogger.com
